Get to know Anesthesiologist Dr. Irani S. Ekanayake, who serves patients in Allen, Texas

Dr. Ekanayake is a reputable anesthesiologist who works out of Allen, Texas. She is licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey and the state of Texas. Earlier in her career, she maintained hospital privileges at Medical City McKinney in McKinney, Texas. 

Dr. Ekanayake graduated in 1993 from the St. George’s University School of Medicine in the West Indies. She then pursued a one-year internship in internal medicine at St Barnabas Medical Center, followed by a three-year anesthesiology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center (1994-1997). 

Following her training, she attained board certification in anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABD). The American Board of Anesthesiology sets standards and exams for the accreditation of Board certified anesthesiologists coming to the end of their residency. It is one of the 24 medical specialty boards that constitutes the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. A physician specialized in anesthesiology is called an anesthesiologist.
